From macro to micro

Spotify, Uber and AirBnB are companies that use digital technology to challenge and transform their industries very quickly and decisively. Apple redrew the mobile phone map with a single product, resulting in Nokia, the largest mobile phone manufacturer at the time, largely disappearing from the market. Most experts now agree that all businesses whatever the industry will come across changes driven by digitalization, and the big challenge is how organizations are to deal with the change. We study this topic from a global perspective and then hone in on the local context, where we look at the conditions for your business.

Contents – From global to local

The challenges of digitalization affect every part of your business and much innovation is currently linked to an IT solution and knowledge of new technological solutions that can both improve your existing business but also create an entirely new business in areas/markets previously outside of your operations. What steps does your business need to take to tackle and benefit from digitalization?


The course caters to both those already involved in digitalization initiatives and those who are generally curious about the phenomenon and have increasingly realized that both they and their organization need to take a more active approach to digitalization. The course gives you insights and practical tools for digitalization, which you and your organization then can manage locally and incorporate into your business strategy.


The EFL team consists of prominent educators, researchers, subject matter experts and instructional designers. Our unique partnership with the Lund University School of Economics and Management allows us to create the best conditions for you and your company to grow. At the course, you’ll meet EFL employees with a strong research base and hands-on experience in areas such as mobile systems, business models, ERP systems, digital payment methods and process models.

Course highlights

-Disruptive trends such as digitalization – understanding of several current global trends and how they affect your business
– Understanding of the context of your company/organization based on the above trends and how they affect your current decision-making process
– Cognitive bias – the dangers of inflexible opinions based on “old truths” and how this can prevent innovation in your business
– Organizational and structural obstacles; what are the chances of your business actually getting innovation to succeed in its current setup?
– Exploiting red ocean – will digitalization strengthen your business in established areas?
– Exploring blue ocean – will digitalization serve as a bridge to new areas?
– How do you build an innovation and operational strategy for the future using the above steps to take advantage of digitalization?

This course should not be seen as a business strategy course – you understand your own business best – the course instead gives you insight and practical tools for digitalization, which you then can manage locally and incorporate into your business strategy.


Our business solutions are held on 1+2 full days and we meet in Lund and the surrounding area.

Each of the course’s three days will have their own main subject:
Day 1 – Macro – Digitalization as a term
Day 2 – Digitalization maturity – Measuring the extent to which your business is digitalized
Day 3 – Micro – Tools for understanding business processes and how digitalization can be incorporated into your business processes

Day one thus looks at the big picture of digitalization, while days two and three focus on tools and directly address your business. The days are structured using EFL’s established teaching method consisting of a combination of lectures and discussion.
